If you own a commercial or non-residential building larger than 2,000m², it's time to take action!
On 25 November 2022, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy officially gazetted regulations requiring all registered owners of qualifying buildings to publicly display an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) at the building’s main entrance.
This forms part of the National Energy Act (Act No. 34 of 1998) and aims to promote energy efficiency and transparency in the commercial property sector.
All applicable buildings must have their EPC displayed by 7 December 2025.
All non-residential buildings exceeding 2,000 square meters
Examples include office buildings, retail spaces, and public facilities
An EPC is an official document that rates your building’s energy usage and efficiency, much like the label on household appliances. It helps owners, tenants, and investors understand the energy performance of a building at a glance.
